Extra-Terrestrial JF23 Artist’s View

Name: Watercourse

This construction began with a piece of twisted hazel and a piece of oak.

The theme is water. The wood of the hazel tree is thought to be special.

Find out how some people seem to find water with the help of forked hazel twigs.

The piece of twisted hazel suggests running water – perhaps an underground stream?

The straight mahogany strips contrast with twisting of hazel.

The grain in the oak suggests calm water.

The piece of rope under the oak suggests the shape of a serpent.

Mike also experimented by cutting out and fitting pieces of wood together.

Can you see how the pointed piece of bleached wood (bottom left) fits snugly into a cut out?
