Name: Stringed Instrument 2
Mike’s idea for Stringed Instrument 2 began when he was given a piece of mahogany. Mahogany is a reddish-brown hardwood.
This already had a number of different sized holes cut into it.
It reminded Mike of a photograph of the inside of a grand piano seen on a CD cover.
Can you see why?
He experimented by layering other pieces of wood under the mahogany.
The square at the top of the construction has many small holes. Mike thinks someone practising using a special cutting tool made the holes.
Can you see how the strings look like the stretched strings of a piano or harp?
