African Songs and Drum Beats
This unit contributes to a one year First Access instrumental program in schools supported by Sierra Leone master drummer, Zozo Shuaibu.
Pupils
- sing African and Caribbean songs and play Djembes and other percussion instruments in solo and ensemble contexts
- improvise, and developing fluency and accuracy in accompanying singing, dancing and storytelling, are at the heart of the programme
- explore and perform rhythms deriving from African languages and drumming traditions
invent, develop and perform their own cyclic patterns.
